I'm an adrenaline junkie: former skydiver, former competitive triathelete, former working cowboy, former skateboarder...lived in Boston, NYC, Shiner, Houston...been to Germany, Costa Rica, Mexico, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, France, Austria, Slovakia, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Holland...have sailed everything from a Sunfish, 16 foot Hobiecat, 27 Watkins, 34 Oday, 39 Beneteau, 28 Hunter, 27 Catalina...29 Beneteau...even made my own sailboat once...(didn't work very well...was learning the physics of the keel)...
Now it's all about the ocean and sailing. I'm partners in a refit of a 1980 Morgan 40' Offshore Racer..."Cinderella Liberty" aka "Cindy"....it's hands down the fastest boat I've ever sailed. 8 Halyards. A baby forestay for a stay sail. Spinnaker pole. 2 big drum Lewmar Model 55 Racing Winches 3spd. 2 Lewmar Model 48 Racing Winches 3spd. 4 Lewman Model 20 Winches. Two Lewmar 2sp winches. 3 regular winches. Autohelm. Hydraulic boomvang and backstay. You can shape a sail into any configuration with this boat. Draft 7'. Fast. Very...Very Fast. Can't wait to get her up to steam.
Music
My own. I play guitar...finger style...no pick
Movies
My own too... ;)...don't be an extra in the movie of your life...that's my motto....
Television
Books
William F. Buckley "Racing Through Paradise" at present moment.
Heroes
My dad...2nd Marines Korea...machine gunner...the only man in the family that's seen more violence than me.
About me: "sulum spiritus est a bona"...trans. Every breath is a blessing.
This is what I live for...at minute 1:00 on the video is what an Express 30 Class racing sailboat is like...and what it's like to crew (of course...given the winds).
this is an example of one of my life experiences...I was there a year after this was shot and right after the Red Army withdrew from Eastern Europe...this was shot right before the wall came down...the train from East Berlin to West Berlin...except I took it at midnight...made you feel real small in the world. Notice the trip through no man's land. The area in the center with the guard tower is a mine field. Ended up spending the night in a homeless shelter by the Bahnhoff Zoo in the West.

Who I'd like to meet: whoever crosses my path... and Robert Frost "The Road Not Taken"
TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I spent a month living in a tent in Costa Rica from this view in the video below. Been back a few times. I decided to swim that tiny island out in the middle of the bay right after high tide crested...bad idea. This video is at low tide and the variance was about a 200 yards shoreline between high and low...so you'd be standing in chest deep water at high from this perspective. Anyway, the currents started carrying me out to sea and I only survived with fins and not panicking. This video looks like 1980ish...I was there 1996...now 12 years later it's real touristy with a lot of groms. My campsite was right behind the photographer.
I lived with a bunch a Nicaraguan migrant workers, Tico tourists, a couple of surfers, and a couple of chicks from Quebec. Simple days...played a hand made guitar that the owner of the camp made...
i forgot to tell you that i love living in tents. oopsie....stockton lake,, missouri....that's where my tent home was...at the state park. wake up! i tried reeeally hard to get up there but it didn't happen :(
Actually I first heard Merle and Willie's version and loved it, but the original is beautiful, too. Anyone's version of the that song is pretty darn good! Hope all is well in Htown.
Hey Matthew...just coming to say hi. Thanks for the invite to go sailing the other day. Would have completely loved to go...never been...but work keeps me on the road quite a bit. Give me a heads up next time and I will so take a day off, like on a Monday or something. Don't get sea sick, love the water and think it would be a thrill!!! Hope all is well luv! Cole
